Chapter 1
- Lusa's point of view
- Ujurak invites Lusa to come with them

- Toklo tries to convince Ujurak to leave Lusa, but Ujurak refuses
Chapter 2
- Toklo's point of view
- Toklo catches a ground squirrel
- Toklo catches the scent of a deer but Ujurak makes them go the other way
- Ujurak tells Toklo and Lusa that they must follow the Sky Ridge
- Lusa sees a golden eagle in the sky
- A second eagle comes and Toklo fights them off
- Lusa, Toklo, and Ujurak continue across Sky Ridge
- Four wolves come and chase Toklo, Lusa, and Ujurak
- Ujurak turns into a mule deer and leads the wolves away
- Toklo and Lusa hide in some bushes
- Ujurak returns and tells Lusa and Toklo about being a mule deer
