Kassuq (kah-suk) is a small, male polar bear cub.

History

In the Return to the Wild arc

The Melting Sea

Kassuq and his family are taken by no-claws and are placed back in a metal bird. He wakes up soon after his sister, and also is hungry.

After Akna admits she has no milk and Kallik and Yakone go to hunt, Kassuq and Iluq play around in the water, under the watchful eyes of Akna and Lusa. He tries to help Lusa and Iluq build a shelter, but hides behind Lusa when he sees two male bears. Lusa mentions male bears may harm them, which terrifies Kassuq. Akna and Toklo then come and scare away the two polar bears.

When the four bears decide to leave, Kassuq is sad and wants to go with them, but he and his sister stay with Akna.

Trivia

• He reminds Kallik of Taqqiq and Kissimi.
• His name means "drifting piece of ice" in Inuktitut.
