Lusa is one of the three main characters in the Seekers series. She is a black bear who is the daughter of King and Ashia.
History
The Quest Begins
- As a young black bear, Lusa is often seen playing games with the other cub, Yogi. The two are always asking Stella to tell stories about the wild and other things. One day, when trying to climb a tree to reach Yogi, King comes over and teaches her that to climb she must move quickly and not slowly. Lusa is amazed to see that he was right, when she reaches the top of the tree she is dazzled by how big everything really is beyond the Bear Bowl.
- When Ashia begins to act vague, Lusa starts to worry despite the comforting of other bears. She alerts the flat-faces of the problem, who take Ashia away. Lusa waits four sunrises for her mother's return. When she does return, Lusa is excited to hear all of what her mother saw. She is surprised when King gets angry at the mention of the wild.
- When a new grizzly comes to the Bear Bowl, Lusa is intrigued by the newcomer. She tries to talk to the she-bear but finds out that Oka is too miserable to talk. She tries again several times and finds out what happened. She makes a vow to Oka to find her missing cub. Lusa begins to try and find ways out of the Bear Bowl, ending up with playing sick to get out. At night, she unlocks her cage and makes a run for it.
- Lusa is now in the wild. She has difficulty getting through the mountains to find Toklo but she eventually does when she is chasing a rabbit.
Great Bear Lake
- Lusa starts her journey with Toklo and Ujurak after meeting them. She and Toklo don't get along that well but Toklo really cares for her. They get to Great Bear Lake for the Longest Day ceremony. But the white bears (polar bears) steal one of the black bear cubs that Lusa has met. Lusa meets Kallik and they both try to save the black bear whose name is Miki. The white bears eventually let him go. Then Lusa, Kallik, Toklo, Ujurak, and Taqqiq (Kallik's brother) continue their journey to the Place of Everlasting Ice (Kallik and Taqqiq are starting their journey).
