Poisonbeasts were underwater firebeasts, otherwise called submarines. They were called thus because they polluted and "poisoned" the water that the beluga whales swam in. Ujurak learned of them when he turned into a whale and met a whale cow named Uglu, who was searching for her son Pukak who was lost not long before in the poisonbeasts' swimming area, and possibly killed.
