Kallik steals a hare from her. Later, Kallik sees the fox glaring at her from a bush and she gives it the leftovers from her food. Kallik notes that her fur is russet, but it will turn white in snow-sky.
Later the arctic fox follows Kallik around and they share prey which leads to Kallik thinking of her as a friend. When Kallik reaches Great Bear Lake, she realizes that the fox won't be able to go with her, and she says good-bye, hoping they will see each other again.
