The Great Bear is Ursa. She is the bear spirit who watches over every single bear, no matter what color fur. Her form changes for the type of bear she appears to.
She is known as Silaluk for all polar bears. For black bears and grizzly bears, she is called Arcturus. Some grizzly bears know her as The Lonely Bear. In all forms, she is truly Ursa. She has a son, who is Ujurak, also known as the Little Bear.
In The Original Series arc
- Toklo found her son, Ujurak, who was injured. Ujurak reveals to Toklo that his mother was killed by flat-faces.
- Ujurak was following a star which he had a special connection to, which was Ursa. On the Longest Day, the different bears would do different things for the bear they believed in.
- Ursa appeared to each of the bears in their drems as the bear they believed in; she appeared as Silaluk to Kallik, Arcturus to Lusa, The Lonely Bear to Toklo, and simply herself to Ujurak, where he learned that she was his mother.
- When Ujurak died, she appeared to him, telling him to walk the stars with her, and that she was very proud of him.
